Sustainable development: a long-lasting source of projects at Genève Aéroport

From 30 May to 5 June, Genève Aéroport is dedicated to sustainable development and informs its passengers about its commitments and its actions. During the European Sustainable Development Week, various activities will be offered to publicise the global strategy on this important issue.

With the distribution of locally grown strawberries, the broadcast of a 3D movie on waste separation called “One, Two, Sort”, massages made available to passengers in boarding lounges, the presentation at airport of the „électricité suisse 100% renouvelable“ (about the 100% renewable Swiss power) programme, information on the compensation of CO2 emissions caused by air traffic, here are some of the many actions that Genève Aéroport presented or will present to its passengers during the European Sustainable Development Week. With these examples Genève Aéroport shows how projects overlap across the various departments of the company.

All of these actions and their profits will be published in a report that is issued every two years. This will clearly detail how Genève Aéroport is looking daily for a balance between economy, environment and social concernsand what measures it implements to ensure a responsible development for its structure. Sustainable development is part of its employee policy, of its infrastructure management and in its environmental actions to reduce its noise and atmospheric impact and limit their impact on local residents.

Genève Aéroport wants to show that its global development is based on a responsible analysis. Thus, its actions are not confined to its own sphere of activity, but have also an effect on the other companies at the airport. For example, the renewal of the vehicles on the tarmac are systematically substituted with electric vehicles. Or the fact that the airport’s partners do participate to the first workshop of industrial ecology organised by Genève Aéroport.

Genève Aéroport keeps an open ear to the general public and its partners and has thus developed a questionnaire that will permit to adjust, improve or complete its actions and commitments. For each completed questionnaire, CHF 2.00 will be donated to the “le Bateau Genève” Association.
